A film festival is over in a day. But for creators, an award should be a beginning, not an end. A winning work should reach more audiences, and a winning creator should be able to move on to the next work. SVAIFF KOREA 2026 designed exactly this from the start: the road that continues after the awards ceremony.
Chances for a festival held in Korea to connect in a real way with the rest of the world are rare, and hard to realize well. Many events talk about going global, but works that actually cross the sea and meet audiences are few. This festival has divided that road into three paths, exchange, exhibition and commercialization, and plans to make them real, one step at a time.
1. Exchange — the Silicon Valley Global Final
The first path is exchange. SVAIFF operates as a global network linking 10 cities and regions: Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Boston, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, New York, London, Paris and Shenzhen. The 50 winning works from the Korean edition advance to the Global Final in Silicon Valley, USA, in January 2027, opening onto the international stage.
The 19 prize-winning works must enter the final, and the organizers pay their final evaluation fee (USD 99 per work). The 31 Global Final Encouragement Award works decide for themselves whether to enter; those that do pay the fee themselves. The organizers’ jury decides which final category each winning work enters, in line with the global award categories.
The Global Final is run independently by a separate partner organizer (Star Alliance Culture Inc.), which sets the judging, schedule and conditions. The Korean edition works hand in hand with the final while each runs its own stage independently. Works recognized in Korea are judged again before the world’s jurors and audiences.
2. Exhibition — at an Art Center in Irvine, on the Screens of CES
The second path is exhibition. The festival plans to present winning works in a special exhibition at NOVARTA Art Center in Irvine, California, and in continuous screening at the E-Park AI booth at CES 2027, the world’s largest technology show. Works made by Korean AI creators will meet audiences in American galleries and at the heart of the global technology industry.
NOVARTA Art Center has spacious galleries and a large media wall, and can present painting, crafts and video together. Seeing video works step off the screen to meet a museum’s walls and spaces can be a moment when AI film comes to be accepted not only as cinema but as a work of art.
The exhibition path is not open to winners alone. The festival is also seeking overseas exhibition opportunities for its special invited artists, Master Potter Rae-heon Park (Wonjeong) and media artist Young-hoon Jeong, so that the hand of tradition and the eye of the future can meet audiences abroad as well as on the Seoul stage.
3. Commercialization — So a Work Leads to the Next
The third path is commercialization: connecting opportunities for collaboration and distribution so that a good work does not end with a single screening and its creator can go on to the next project. Winning works receive benefits such as screening at CES, an art center exhibition and nomination as a Meta Oriental incubation candidate. The festival aims to link works and creators with industry partners, creating a flow in which creation leads to work, and work leads to the next creation.
4. The Global AI IDOL Award, Toward 2027
The Global AI IDOL Award 2026, held on the same day, was created independently in Korea in partnership with the Silicon Valley AI Film Festival. This year it is a pre-showcase ahead of its full launch in 2027. It will introduce AI-born idols and related content to audiences and the industry for the first time, and build next year’s main stage on that response and experience. One winner receives the Best AI Idol award with a prize of KRW 3.5 million.
5. Widening the Ground, Not Making a Profit
Beneath all these paths lies one principle: zero cost for participants. No entry fee, participation fee, judging fee, registration fee or admission fee is charged to entrants, participants or audiences. Admission is free; seats go first to invited guests such as the winners, and the remaining seats are offered through free advance registration. There is no paid seating and no merchandise sold on site.
Prize money and operating costs come from the organizers’ budget and from sponsorship, and sponsors play no part in judging. In particular, support from Co-Chair JI LIN, who has also stepped forward as a sponsor of the event, has strengthened this public-interest model. It is also thanks to that support that the organizers can pay the final evaluation fee for the 19 prize-winning works.
The purpose of the festival is not commercial profit. It is to nurture cultural content and widen the ground on which future industries can grow — so that no creator hesitates to take on a challenge because of cost, and more people can see and experience AI film for themselves.
6. A Road Where People Remain the Authors of Their Stories
In the end, the road this festival wants to take comes down to one sentence: however far AI advances, people remain the authors of the story. That is why the festival judges the creative process alongside the finished work, and why it invited a traditional artist and a media artist as special invited artists. The festival hopes that this small step taken in Seoul becomes a long road on which Korean AI creators meet the world.
Entries are accepted from October 25 to November 25 on the official website (korea.svaiff.com), and both entry and admission are free.
